Switzerland keep Swiss Francs

Switzerland is not part of the European Union, it does not have the euro, there is no customs union with the EU. The good news is that it participates in the Schengen area.

It should therefore come as no surprise that Switzerland has its own currency, the Swiss franc managed by the Swiss National Bank.

The Swiss franc was created in 1848 on the model of the old French franc before its revaluation in 1960.

The Swiss franc is the legal tender of Switzerland, the Principality of Lichtenstein, the enclave of Büsingen am Hochrhein and Campione d’Italia.

The Swiss franc is divided into coins of 5, 10, 20 and 50 centimes. 1, 2, 5 francs. The banknotes are 10, 20, 50, 100, 200, 1000.

It is always a good idea to have about 50 Swiss francs in coins, to pay for parking, paid toilets, a coffee or other small things.

Euros are only accepted in banknotes, the change is in Swiss francs anyway.

Credit cards are widely accepted.

There are several exchange offices with advantageous rates, such as Taleda near the Manor shop in the city centre
