Ticino is a small territory but with a great tradition in wine. In fact, our fine wines have won many prizes in the best international competitions.
Eighty per cent of our wine produced is red Merlot, a speciality invented in Ticino is white Merlot.
From Mendrisiotto to the Leventina, from the Lugano to the Locarno region without forgetting the Bellinzona region, good wines are produced every year, some years and some grape varieties produce exceptional wine.
From classic maturation in wooden barrels to bottles or the production of local spumante aged in bottles underwater in the lake.
On the train journey from Chiasso to Lugano, several estates can be seen as well as by boat going to and from Morcote.
During the year, it is possible to book tastings at various wine cellars in advance.
In spring and autumn, wine tasting events are organised. The main one is Cantine Aperte “the open wine cellars”, with one in Sotto Ceneri and one in Sopra Ceneri on separate weekends.
